EPEC for Long-Term Care
Education in Palliative and End-of-life Care for Long-Term Care (EPEC - Long Term Care) is a curricular adaptation of EPEC that was designed for use by providers who work in long-term care facilities. The adaptation and first conference were completed with the assistance of a grant from the Retirement Research Foundation.

Celia Berdes, PhD, MSPH, led the adaptation effort. Other EPEC - Long-Term Care team members included Linda Emanuel, MD, PhD, Joshua Hauser, MD, and Michael Preodor, MD. Preliminary research was conducted by physicians, nurses, social workers, nursing assistants, physical therapists, and pastoral care staff at Presbyterian Homes, a multi-campus, continuing care retirement community located in Evanston, Arlington Heights, and Lake Forest, Illinois. These participants also attended the project's pilot conference.

Current goals of EPEC - Long-Term Care include the development of a distance learning version and plans to study the feasibility of using EPEC - Long-Term Care for all staff in nursing home that care for residents with advanced dementia.
